Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Department of CV Surgery: Faculty Forum
Update on ECMO for COVID-19: What have we learned?
Faculty: J. Hoffman, MD, Matt Warhoover, CCP, A. Lepore, CCP
Tammy Sparacino Journal Club:
Early experience of pump-controlled retrograde trial off for weaning from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) in adult patients with cardiogenic shock.
Pump-controlled retrograde trial off has recently been introduced as an effective method for weaning from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in pediatric patients.
However, studies on pump-controlled retrograde trial off in adults are still lacking. Thus, this study aimed to examine the outcomes of pump-controlled retrograde trial off for weaning from veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in adult patients.
John Ingram Knowledge Nuggets:
Recombinant Activated Human Factor VII
Welcome to another insightful episode in our ever-growing library of educational webinars. This installment is a collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of CV Surgery and offers a wealth of information, expertise, and perspectives on ECMO in the context of COVID-19. Hosted by Joe Basha, this video is segmented into a faculty forum, a journal club presentation, and a section on knowledge nuggets.
The primary aims of this webinar include:
Presented by J. Hoffman, MD, Matt Warhoover, CCP, and A. Lepore, CCP, this segment aims to answer the pressing question—what have we learned about ECMO in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic? The faculty addresses the current state of knowledge, best practices, and challenges that lie ahead.
Tammy Sparacino dives into the topic of pump-controlled retrograde trial off, a weaning method recently introduced for pediatric patients on V-A ECMO. The presentation critically examines its potential applicability and outcomes in adult patients.
John Ingram caps off the webinar with "Knowledge Nuggets," focusing on the role of Recombinant Activated Human Factor VII. This segment aims to equip viewers with bite-sized yet potent insights into this specialized coagulation factor and its implications.
This webinar is intended for perfusionists, cardiologists, critical care physicians, and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the management of patients requiring ECMO. It is also highly beneficial for medical researchers and students specializing in cardiothoracic surgery and critical care.
This webinar offers a multi-dimensional view of current practices and emerging trends in ECMO management, particularly in the context of COVID-19. It also qualifies for Continuous Education Units (CEUs), making it a critical resource for your ongoing professional development.
The webinar features a stellar lineup of experts, each contributing unique insights and knowledge to the discussion. Their diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise ensure a well-rounded, multi-disciplinary exploration of the topics at hand.
The video includes an interactive Q&A session, enabling viewers to engage directly with the panel of experts. This makes the learning experience not just informative but also collaborative.
The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed unprecedented challenges on healthcare systems worldwide, making the role of advanced life-support systems like ECMO more critical than ever. This webinar aims to provide you with updated, evidence-based knowledge to enhance your clinical practice and research endeavors in this vital area.
We invite you to join us in this enlightening journey by watching the video and sharing it within your professional network. As the most extensive knowledge resource for perfusionists globally, we are committed to continually enriching your learning experience.
